ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA MORT DE JEAN-PAUL II, "DÉFENSEUR
DES DROITS ET DE LA DIGNITÉ"
"Un homme complet et pleinement réalisé", un "témoin
exemplaire du dévouement envers ses frères", un "communicateur
spontané de l’Évangile" : voici ce qu’a dit de
Jean-Paul II dans la Basilique de Saint Jean du Latran le cardinal Camillo
Ruini, vicaire du Pape pour le diocèse de Rome, en clôture de
la phase diocésaine de sa cause de béatification, en ce deuxième
anniversaire de sa mort.
La foi du Pape défunt était "à la fois celle d’un enfant et celle d’un grand homme de culture, bien conscient des défis d’aujourd’hui" et cette foi l’a poussé à œuvrer pour la "défense et la promotion de la dignité et des droits (…) s’opposant avec un courage qui n’a jamais connu d’obstacles aux multiples menaces qui pesèrent sur l’humanité de notre époque".
Évoquant les dernières années du Pontificat de Jean-Paul II, le cardinal a rappelé que le Pape avait affronté "la maladie et la douleur physique avec patience et sérénité, avec une authentique virilité chrétienne, continuant tenacement à accomplir ses devoirs, sans faire peser ses maux sur les autres". Les célébrations de la journée de prière dédiée au deuxième anniversaire de la mort de Karol Wojtyla ont été inaugurées ce matin par le cardinal Stanislao Dziwisz, archevêque de Cracovie et secrétaire de Jean-Paul II pendant plus de 40 ans, avec une célébration eucharistique sur sa tombe dans les Grottes du Vatican.
"Il est retourné dans la maison du Père mais il est toujours présent dans la vie de l’Église. Le premier témoin en est le Pape benoît XVI . Jean-Paul II a laissé à l’Église universelle des encycliques, des exhortations et des homélies mais également la conscience du fait que sa vie a été un don de sainteté qui enrichit l’Élise toute entière, et suivre son chemin est aujourd’hui pour nous tous un défi", a dit le cardinal Dziwisz. "Nous voyons chaque jour que son message reste actuel.
Il a été le Pape de la vie (…) Personne n’a
lutté autant que lui pour la dignité de toutes les femmes et
de tous les hommes". Le Pape benoît XVI dira une messe à
l’intention de Jean-Paul II à St Pierre à 17 h 30 ; la
journée se conclura à 21 h 00 dans les Grottes du Vatican avec
le rosaire et la réflexion de l’archevêque Angelo Comastri,
vicaire général de benoît XVI pour la Cité du Vatican.

ANNIVERSARY DEATH OF JOHN PAUL II, “DEFENDER OF DIGNITY
AND RIGHTS”
“A full and fully-accomplished man, an “exemplary witness of devotion
to his neighbours”, a “natural communicator of the Gospel”:
these are some of the definitions of John Paul II given by Cardinal Camillo
Ruini, the Pope’s vicar for the diocese of Rome, in his speech –
reported by the SIR (Religious information Service) - for the closing of the
diocesan stage of the beatification process, which took place in the Basilica
of San Giovanni in Laterano today, on the second anniversary from his death.
For the Pope’s vicar, that of the new servant of God “was a simple faith of a youngster and at the same time that of a great man of culture, well aware of today’s challenges. It was this faith – testified the Cardinal – that pushed him to take upon himself “the defence and promotion of dignity and rights, in one word of the authentic and concrete wellbeing of man and populations, opposing with unwavering courage the many ‘threats’ on humanity of our times”.
In remembering the last years of the pontificate of John Paul II, the Cardinal said that he lived “his illness and physical pain with great serenity and patience, with authentic Christian virility, continuing tenaciously to fulfil his duties as much as possible, without disturbing others with his ailments (…) Divine Mercy – concluded Cardinal Ruini – was the focus of his spirituality and his life: from this he learned to win over evil with goodness’.
The celebrations of the day of prayer to mark the second anniversary of the death of Pope Woityla were opened this morning by Cardinal Stanislao Dziwisz, Archbishop of Cracovia and secretary of John Paul II for over 40 years, in the Eucharistic celebration on the tomb of the predecessor of Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican grottas: “He returned to the house of the Father but continues being present in the life of the Church. The first witness of this is Benedict XVI. John Paul left the Universal Church encyclicals, numerous exhortations and homilies, but also awareness of how his life was a gift of sainthood that enriches the entire Church and this is the challenge for each of us today, in following in his path”, stated Cardinal Dziwisz, adding: “Daily we see how his message remains current.
He was the Pope of life, from conception until his natural death.
No one like he fought for this and for the dignity of all men and all women
and human kind”. Pope Benedict XVI at 5:30p.m in St. Peter’s Square
will preside the suffrage Mass for pope Wojtyla; at 9:00p.m the day will conclude
with the reciting of the rosary in the Vatican grottas and a reflection of
Archbishop Angelo Comastri, vicar general of Benedict XVI for the Vatican
City.
