2 . 10-02-2012 : Some thoughts of Archbishop Desmond Tutu,

God is not neutral
"This God did not just talk…He showed Himself to be a doing God. Perhaps we might add another point about God - He takes sides. He is not a neutral God. He took the side of the slaves, the oppressed, the victims. He is still the same even today; He sides with the poor, the hungry, the oppressed and the victims of injustices." (Archbishop Desmond Tutu, from Allister Sparks and Mpho A. Tutu, in 'Tutu', p. 72. )

We can be human only in fellowship
"When will we learn that human beings are of infinite value because they have been created in the image of God, and that it is a blasphemy to treat them as if they were less than this and to do so ultimately recoils on those who do this? In dehumanising others, they are themselves dehumanised. Perhaps oppression dehumanises the oppressors as much as, if not more than, the oppressed. They need each other to become truly free, to become human. We can be human only in fellowship, in community, in koinonia, in peace." (Archbishop Desmond Tutu, ibid., p. 93. )

"My humanity is bound up in yours and we can only be human together." (Archbishop Desmond Tutu)

Human beings are not just important
"Because God became a human being, it means human beings are not just important - they are very close to being worshiped because we are all created in the image of God and therefore each one of us is a God-carrier. And so, to ill-treat a human being is not just a criminal act, it is a religious concern, because it is blasphemy." (Archbishop Desmond Tutu, ibid., p. 56-57. )
