BLESSING AND OPENING OF THE NEW CHURCH – ST STEPHEN’S
PARISH –
KHARTOUM North Sudan
“If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do the
builders labour.”
Dear donors, benefactors and friends of St Stephen’s Parish,
It has pleased God to grant us a special and great gift: a place of
worship, a place to praise his Holy Name, in Jesus Christ his Son and the
Spirit, Glory to Him.
On the 7th of December 2006, on the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, feast of Our Lady, the government of the Republic of Sudan, finally answered our plea of having a suitable place of worship in our parish; the right for us as faithful Catholics in the North of Sudan to have a decent and prayerful place to practise our faith as Christians without fear or threats.

It was like in a dream to have this yes - answer since our struggle
begun ten years ago. The dream became true. It was a joyful day for us all
in the parish. In fact since 1969, no church building has been officially
permitted, especially for the Catholic Church in the North of Sudan.
On the 26th of December, 2006, the foundation stone of the Church was laid
by his Eminence Gabriel Cardinal Zubeir Wako, Archbishop of Khartoum. (No
waste of time … il faut battre le fer quand il est chaud !)
The parish faithful started looking for a plan and the means of building this
church. The very day of the laying of the foundation stone a special collection
was made among the faithful who were present. It was called “tooba tooba,
nabni kanisat-na”, which means “Stone by stone, let us build our
Church.” We collected 2,000 dinars – at the time, almost 800 $ US.
Since that day until now the “tooba tooba, nabni kanisatna”
collection has been successful. But for the building of such a big church
our local contributions were surely not enough; then we called for help from
everywhere and from all friends known and unknown. The answer was a success
for the building of this church. Today, with a kind of satisfaction for us
and with them, we can say that the Church of St Stephen’s Parish is almost
finished. The different efforts have borne fruit. We would like to thanks
here all our donors and benefactors and friends, (a special letter of thanks
will be address to each one of them in due time).
However, we are in deficit of about 40,000 Dinars (almost 15,000 $ US) in
order to complete the building of the Church. So we still need your continuous
moral and financial support.
Today, we would like to give thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ
for all these efforts, and at the same time, we would like to announce that
the official opening of the Church will be on the Patron feast of the parish
– on the 26th of December, 2011, on the feast of St Stephen the Proto-martyr
of the Universal Church.
Let us join together in prayer on this special day for us as
Missionaries of Africa in Sudan and especially for the Church of North Sudan
as all are called as God’s family to be witness to the Kingdom of God,
in bringing the family of God in Unity and Communion to witness to the risen
Lord, like St Stephen and all the Saints of the Church in joyful and faithful
praise.
We would like to have all of you with us on this day –
but if this is not possible, then join us in praying for us and for the Church
in the Archdiocese of Khartoum.

CONSECRATION ET OUVERTURE DE L'ÉGLISE
DE LA PAROISSE ST.-ÉTIENNE
DE KHARTOUM/NORD-SOUDAN

Chers bienfaiteurs et amis de la paroisse St.-Étienne,
Il a plu au Seigneur de nous offrir un grand cadeau : un sanctuaire pour louer
et glorifier son saint Nom, en Jésus-Christ son Fils et dans l'Esprit,
loué soit-il.
A la veille de la fête de l'Immaculée Conception, fête de Notre-Dame, le sept décembre 2006, le gouvernement de la République du Soudan acceptait finalement notre demande d'avoir un convenable lieu de culte pour notre communauté catholique du Nord Soudan, afin de pouvoir exprimer notre foi chrétienne sans crainte ni menace.

C'est comme un rêve de recevoir cette réponse positive étant
donné que notre démarche a commencé voilà dix
ans. Ce rêve devient réalité. C'est un jour de joie pour
nous tous dans la paroisse. En fait, aucune construction d'église n'a
été officiellement accordée, en particulier pour l'Église
catholique au Nord Soudan, depuis 1969.

Wako, pose la première pierre le 26 décembre 2006 (" …Pas
de perte de temps…il faut battre le fer quand il est chaud ! "
Les paroissiens pensent à un plan et cherchent les moyens pour construire
l'église. Le jour de la pose de la première pierre, une collecte
spéciale a lieu parmi les fidèles présents. Elle s'appelle
: " tooba tooba, nabni kanisat-na " ce qui signifie : " pierre
par pierre, construisons notre église ! " Nous collectons deux
mille dinars sur le moment, environ huit cents dollars américains.
Depuis ce jour jusqu'à maintenant, la collecte de fonds " tooba
tooba, nabni kanisatna " est un succès mais elle reste insuffisante
pour la construction d'une si grande église. C'est pourquoi nous avons
demandé de l'aide partout, aux amis connus et inconnus. La réponse
a été un succès. Aujourd'hui, nous pouvons dire avec
satisfaction à tous ceux qui ont contribué, ici et au loin,
que l'église paroissiale St.-Étienne est presque finie. Les
efforts réalisés ensemble ont porté du fruit. Nous remercions
ici tous nos donataires, bienfaiteurs et amis. Une spéciale lettre
de remerciements sera envoyée à chacun de vous en son temps.
Cependant, nous sommes en dette d'environ 40'000 Dinars, environ 15'000 Dollars Américains pour l'achèvement de l'église. C'est ainsi que nous avons encore besoin de votre aide financière et de votre soutien moral.
Nous rendons grâce au Seigneur Jésus-Christ pour tout ce qui a été accompli et nous vous annonçons l'ouverture officielle de l'église le 26 décembre 2011, le jour de la fête du martyre de St.-Étienne.
Soyons unis dans la prière en ce jour spécial pour nous, Missionnaires d'Afrique au Soudan et pour l'Église du Nord Soudan. Nous sommes tous appelés comme famille de Dieu à témoigner de son Royaume en travaillant à l'unité, dans la communion avec le Seigneur Ressuscité, comme l'ont fait St.-Étienne et tous les saints de l'Église en joyeuse action de grâce.
Nous aimerions vous accueillir tous en ce jour mais si ce n'est pas possible,
alors soyons unis dans la prière pour l'Église et l'archidiocèse
de Khartoum.
