JOHN PAUL II JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTRE

“Faith Doing Justice”

John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre (JPIIJPC) was established in 2006 by a Consortium of five religious Institutions working in Uganda – Comboni Missionaries, Congregation of the Holy Cross, Mill Hill Missionaries, Missionaries of Africa and the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Since then, two others have joined: Comboni Sisters and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa.

The main objective of the Centre is “to make the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) more known, understood and effective in the life of the Church and Society of Uganda”. It has three departments: Research, Training and Advocacy.

The main activities are: workshops and seminars on JP, CST and Civic Education; research work on justice and peace social issues; running a “Resource Centre” (Library) on JP in general, but specifically on CST.

The Centre works in close collaboration with the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commissions, the Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU), the Catholic Secretariat for Justice and Peace and the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC). It is registered with the Non-Governmental Organizations and therefore also works in collaboration with other NGOs especially in the field of lobbying and advocacy.

For running its daily activities, the Centre has a staff of 12 people headed by the director. For its general leadership, orientations, policies and decisions, it has the Executive Committee, the Board of Governors and the Annual General Meeting.
