Where we are

Where we are

Before 1992, the European and North American countries (called provinces) were still very much seen as the countries of origin of the Missionaries of Africa, while the African countries (called regions) were seen as the object of the Mission. But more and more Africans were joining the Society and therefore it was decided to abolish the distinction between provinces and regions. Around the 2004 Chapter, the number of missionaries was quickly diminishing and it became evident that the driving forces in the Society was shifting from the ageing European missionaries to the younger african generations busy missioning to their fellow africans. The need was felt to regroup the forces and to better distribute the power of decision. The Mega Provinces developed and became the norm everywhere after the 2010 Chapter. Today, the target of the Mission is not only Africa but the African people, wherever they may be. At the back of this card, you will discover where we are living out our Mission.
